Project: The Funky Monk, Durham

Eclectic and enticing, The Funky Monk in Durham is part of the luxury hotel group Ramside Estate. The design team at Space ID were enlisted to transform the lavish interiors for the five serviced apartments. The brief was based on a fictional monk character who lived hundreds of years ago, created by the team, and required flooring that looked traditional but with a modern twist.

With the need for each serviced department to have its own identity, Space ID chose bold patterns and timeless woods from Amtico’s Signature and Décor collections, achieving a design that oozes luxurious style and distinctive charm.

The use of contrasting laying patterns and designs throughout the apartments creates zones within the open-plan spaces. The premium Amtico collections were chosen by Space ID for their realistic Wood and Stone designs, alongside the ease of maintenance benefits of LVT, ideal for commercial spaces – the perfect balance between durability and stylish aesthetics.

The bedroom features Aspen Oak in a Small Parquet laying pattern.

Hallway features dark blue painted walls and doors, with a geometric floor pattern. — To give a captivating contrast to the painted dark walls and doors in the lobby, Echo Keys was used.

A feature area was created using Aspen Oak in a bespoke inspired Woven pattern outlined with Gold stripping and laid in Halcyon Pleat for surrounding areas.
